15-Year-Old Shou Pu-erh Tea is a ripe (Shou) Pu-erh that has been aged for approximately 15 years after undergoing accelerated fermentation. While Shou Pu-erh is already ready to drink soon after production, extended aging can further mellow the tea, producing a smoother, more refined flavor.
Useful Properties
Research on aged Shou Pu-erh is still developing, but it may offer several potential benefits:
- Rich in antioxidants that help protect cells from oxidative stress.
- May support digestion, which is one reason it is traditionally consumed after meals.
- Contains moderate caffeine, generally around 20–50 mg per cup, depending on brewing method and leaf quantity.
- May support healthy cholesterol and lipid metabolism, although more robust human studies are needed.
- Gentle on the stomach for many drinkers because of its low astringency.
- Naturally low in calories when consumed without sweeteners.
